 About Us
In September 2008, Ochre Media (Pty) Ltd. launched Saffron TV - South Africa's first local television channel targeting the South African Indian community.
Saffron TV gives the local Indian community a dedicated entertainment offering and a gratifying sense of "this is about me and for me".

The channel has a 20-hour daily schedule of lifestyle, travel, food, fashion, luxury, health and Bollywood entertainment news, offering a mix of locally produced shows and international Indian programmes sourced mainly from NDTV Good Times and Zoom Entertainment Networks.

Saffron TV is available to South African subscribers of DSTV's Indian North and South bouquets, and transmits for 20 hours daily from 06h00 until 02h00. The channel is also available to all DSTV subscribers on DSTV channel 456 on Saturdays and Sundays between 13h00 and 18h00.

The channel is available to subscribers of the DSTV Indian bouquet in the Southern African territories.

All programming is broadcast in English or subtitled in the English language.

Saffron TV aims to achieve a mix of programming that inspire and excite the Indian viewer. With varied local programming and exciting international content, Saffron encompasses all aspects of stylish living and promises to deliver its viewers the best of lifestyle and entertainment news.

Saffron TV is available to all DSTV Premium subscribers on Saturdays and Sundays during Open Time between 13h00 and 18h00.

Positioning Statement
Saffron TV is the only channel where South African Indians can find a place to be entertained, enlightened and celebrated through local and international programming that is lively, colourful and bold.

Our understanding of what the' South African Indian experience' means to us as a channel resonates on four related levels: The collective South African Indian Experience
Content that aims to foster and champion a sense of community.

  • The Individual South African Indian Experience
Ensuring as much as possible that every South African of Indian descent feels equally represented by the channel
  • The South African Indian experience of India
Programming that acknowledges and embraces the connection many of its viewers feel to India.
  • The South African experience in a multicultural South Africa
Programming that is Indian-centered, but also created within a multicultural framework of content-creation.
  • The channel currently airs with a rapid growing subscription base of over 50 000 and over
480 000 viewers during open time.
